Ascendancy : The Review

HOLY !#$)! Was going through my blog, and i realised, i havent reviewed Ascendancy! How the F*ck did that happen ? how did i not review the most influential album in my life?! Jeez! Well, Another tedious review starts once again, but i have to do this...cant believe i didnt...:@!

Okay, Lets Start
1. The End Of Everything : The Start of the Album.Very similar to What Intro Does on the Poison..mellow acoustic play, with pianos here, just to get you excited, and pumped up, a little repetetive..not all that great...but good acoustic work, the clarity is great, and the Aahs give it a very epic feel, and this album is epic!.. so ill give it a 3.75/5

2. Rain : This song popularity probably gave trivium respect they deserved, which led to the making of The Crusade...THE Thrash Metal Song...Ownage Riff, what fuckin picking, fucking kicks ass all over from 0:01...pre chorus owns, chorus owns, every fucking thing owns...one of my only favourite songs that doesnt involve a single pinch harmonic! and its still the fucking shit...machine like drumming man..one of the best drumming on the album..travis smith ko total slaam...breakdown sounds insane, the most melodic chorus comes right after it, which sounds good too...solo is great too, though i think it should have gone a bit longer, would have made the song platinum from gold :P...ironically the outro is the heaviest...makes you just fucking bounce out of your chair man...insane shit..one of the finest trivium has to offer..6/5

3. Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr : Another Trivium Great...starts off with the most intricate drumming...goes into a tizzy with total trem pick and simple powerchords used to fucking well, trivium are geniuses...total anthem sort of feel, with a totally melodic chorus, lighniting fast song, with no slowdowns, no breaks at all...Was probably the song that made me stare into space with wonder at the workmanship and genius...breakdown before the solo, sounds insane, and fucking fast..."You ask me Oh God, Why ? 'cause im god, thats fucking why!" insane matt-corey style solo that ive come to know so well...still blows me away...insane shit...back to pre chorus, harsh vocal, back to chorus, whole song structure is so typical, yet so perfected, sounds brilliant..another masterpiece..5/5

4. Drowned and Torn Asunder : Yeah, Thats where my blog name came from...that start of this song was what just got me stuck to it...initially that was what i liked the most, but after listening to the whole song, so many more aspects came forth...Heafys Vocal Abilities show well here, from Harsh to Harshes Vocals, To total High Melodic Vocals...the Chorus Sounds good, The Breakdown after the 2nd chorus, showcases the drumming abilities of smith, and then the tapping abilities of both...then solo, this is the insanest solo switching song that trivium has ever made without doubt.with count Solos are switched 4 times, and then it goes into a Harmony solo, and all of em just leave you speechless, each solo has a unique feel, unique process, yet as a whole sounds so seamless, and before you know it, its over and your wanting more...awesome song, could have maybe been worked upon more..4.5/5

5. Ascendancy : The Title Track, and unlike what other people say, i think this track very-much lived up to the expectations.this was THE FIRST trivium song i ever heard, and this was what got me into trivium.. Insane trem-picking at the verse, insane trem pick at pre-chor, melooodicc chorus...back to insane trempicking, even though verse to chorus sounds like sky to earth, they still make it sound as a whole, just using octave-chords in between...total genius, i tell ya! again, bridge, insane picking, with a extremely melodic ascend, into solos, very powerful one, which all credit goes to corey for...then a simple yet brilliant dual solo which perfecty bridges back to the verse, into chorus again, at which point the songs ends, in heavy melody, without granduer..good song, but again, should have had more versatility, 4/5

6. A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation : Wow, this song is another masterpiece, at another level, melody galore! starts with octave chords, into fast picking, into jazzish riff. the song potrays child abuse, and how he would shoot the fear out of himself if provoked...goes into a beautiful bridge, which speaks for itself...post next chorus the bridge is extended, which goes into the actual chorus...which i didnt like allll that much...doesnt sound all that great...though lyrically it is sound...then into bridge to solo, similar to pull harder...but the solo work here is absolutely enthralling, i could go on listening to just the solos and be content...this is according to me, where the true pull of the song lies...goes into a harmony solo, which i think is trivium best harmony solo ive heard, it gives the song such a different aspect all of a sudden, from the blistering rhythm guitar..after that, one of the lows of the song arrives..a very boringish, Hey Hey part, just like in Anthem(we are the fire) Maybe the song could have done without it, maybe it couldnt, but its alright, i dont hate it, but not much affinity either...great song, great structure, a Trivium classic. 5/5

7. Like Light To Flies : Possibly one of my favourite trivium songs of all time, the fast fast riffing, the melody, the lyrics, and best of all, the prechorus, that prechorus is such a pleasure to play..i could become the fast shredder on the planet, and still play it...the chorus lyrics are a little stupid, but meld in with the song like butter on toast...beautiful beautiful........back into the blistering verse, and then the sweeet prechorus again...yeah im in love with it :P...The Drumming work here also has to be exemplified...adds such a insane drive to the song, and at the clean choruses, stays at the back so loyally...the pre-solo bridge sounds great too, and the structure, though unorthodox, sounds great...coreys solo is mind blowing too, he can play the fastest solos, and the slowest solos, and they all sound great...harmonized solo, into heafys solo, fast fast crushing speed, which suddenly stops back into the intro riff, into a quick prechor, into chorus...atypical structure, but maybe that what adds to the song...i can listen to this song forever, seriously..6/5

8. Dying In Your Arms : The Commercial song of this album, whos sucess also lead to the making of this world cant tear us apart onto the crusade...easy song, yet so melodic, yet so heavy, yet so listenable, i wont lie, before it all, this was the song that made me want to listen to more of trivium...the chorus is great, the pre solo bridge is insane, sounds great, with the sudden harsh vocals, into the solo, solo is coreys magic at work, as it always is...fast,melodic, and i can almost play it! woot! then back to the chorus, which goes into the signature trivium octave climb, good song, all through, very likeable..4/5

9. The Decieved : I Heard this was taken of older trivium work, but this song still has a very good feel, starts with galloping, good verse work, prechorus is good too, but what probably has to be the best thing about this song, has to be the chorus...so melodic, so beautiful..no words to describe it! then it goes into repeat, like Light To Flies..the bridge after the second chorus, with the harmonized sort of solo, sounds straight up great, intro a breakdown-sort of thing, which sounds brilliant, into solos, corey as usual insanely melodic and beautiful.. slows, ascends, and sweeps...repeat into matts solo, this one is a little quicker, but has the same structure, slows, sweeps and ascend, back into chorus, ah, that beautiful chorus....great great great song...another trivium classic, exposes theyre talent as versatile musicians..4.5/5

10. Suffocating Sight : This song is another great, chordy intro, into a gutwrenching crushing verse, which is melodic, yet at a breakneck speed...the lyrics, though interpreted to be very funny, are actually great and make a lot of sense..about apprehension, insecurity, and the likes..the chorus sounds great too, and using Dying in your arms chording, but sounds totally different, and i needed tabs to realise it...the breakdown post chorus, is again totally moshable shit...break heads! into a fast fast solo, one of the fast on ascendancy, but its stays short, back into the breakneck riff, and then this wierd depressed part which i didnt like...signature octave rise, with o's towards the end, which showcases the vocal talent too..4/5

11. Departure : This song is thoroughly underrated, has a great starting, goes into a bit out acoustic work, and has clean vocals for most of it...but again, shows the vocal work that heafy does, which sounds so great in every form...the chorus is another great, and feels like it has so much emotion in it, it makes me want to cry! ;)..enough of the slow crap...into a totally indecipherable riff that just blows minds, tempo goes into 5x original tempo...fast ascending solo follows...then suddenly, its acoustic again! hehe....well, they had to go into the chorus again, or it wouldnt be trivium :), but a great song, that deserves a lot more praise then its actually getting 4.5/5

12. Declaration : This song is the underdog of the album, that comes out so late...but shows trivium melodic yet heavy appeal...the lyrics, and vocals on this song are simply mind-blowing...and the trem picking reminds me of the ember to inferno age...this song does look like its been though out and not just concieved to be a filler...the chorus on this one, matches the beauty of The Deceived, in all its majesty, and i stand corrected, this is undoubtly the best trivium chorus ever! just so mellow, yet so insane...goes into a long bridge, which, at no point, is even remotly good, its absolutely incredible at all points! this is the only song from this album that hasnt been tabbed perfectly, and its understandable...so intricate, so melodic...the singing here also, is so incredible, shows how the voices gel to make such ergonomic portions of music...and BLAST, into a breakneck riff, which is repeated a bit, but gets you wanting for more, and then slows down , into a quick pick..allll the way back into the verse and prechorus, and that chorus.....aaahhhhh, a chorus like one that could calm the mightiest of storms...the power of melody! into a breakneck slow chugging riff, that just completes this song, into one of triviums finest and most intricate works...5.5/5

These Were Bonuses On The CD:

13. Blinding Tears Will Break The Skies : Name Dont Make sense ? thas what i though too...hehe...but the song in itself is pretty good, a fast one, with a lot of melody again, and a very very good chorus, which sounds very triviumy, but still, serene yet powerful, an almost antithesised match..hehe...the signature repeat, what follows is some insane work, which again displays talent infused into heafy and co. has some portion which were used in crusade...very noticeable...still a nice song, which maybe should have come onto the main album too, so that everyone could here it...enjoyable...4/5

14. Washing Away Me In The Tides : Another wierd wierd...but this song is based almost entirely on the main riff, which repeats a lot, but is so complex, you'd never get bored of it! signature chorus, though a little hastyish..the pre-solo rhythm reminds me of ember to inferno's, the solo is very coreyish but has a intresting sweep to it...good stuff, though i dont think this song has enough range to have gotten onto the main album..good decision guys! 3.5/5

All in All, one of the best albums i have heard, of which i like almost every song...immortal stuff...Hail Trivium! Only if they didnt idolize Metallica so much... :\
