The Crusade

Alright, long time no post..so ill start with whats the newest and currently highest time-taker...Triviums new album The Crusade
when i heard there were gonna be no screams, i was pretty happy, id get the lyrics now..but when i heard detonation for the first time, I HATED IT! felt like a cheap metallica rip-off
but a couple of listens through, i started liking it..
and now its all out. a great album...IMO not as good as Ascendancy, but its right up there...
heres how is think the songs are

1.Ignition: has a nice thrash feel too it, all anti-govt stuff, the verses are good, the pre chorus is too metallica-ish .. the chorus is what is catchy and nice...so is the verse...Raise the Guns! 4/5

2.Detonation: another thrashy one, with constant tempo changes, which makes the song really edgy..i like! the chorus is alright, but whats the best are the leads and the whammy parts, awesome! at one point like 8 straight sweeps! 4/5

3.Entrance Of the Conflagration: at first listen, this song seems to out of tune, and too quick...but with a couple of listens in you start gettin the feel...all about ( what i think) a lady who thinks her kids are satans spawn, and so she kills em :S , anyway, great song, great riffs, another blow-away solo 5/5

4.Anthem : Now, this song is the exact opposite of the others, its completely non-trash, and feels a bit sort of like KISS or something, the more classic metal types...good song though...though the Woooaahhh, Yeaaahh part was unecessary and makes it sound a lot like Gunshot to the head of trepidation..awesome solo breaks, and harmoized solos there 4/5

5.Unrepentant : one of the best songs on the album, has a flanged opener, and goes into a quick tale about a guy who finds out one of his daughters had an affair and so kills all 4 of his daughters..one of the best lyrically composed songs...with a EXTREMELY melodic and catchy chorus...good solo, not the best though...killer song none-the-less 5/5

6.Sadness Will Sear : now this song is a lot slower, doesnt have quick picking, sor of like suffocating sight...verses sound too similar to something ive already heard, and the solo seems a bit forced...good chorus though...4/5

7.Becoming The Dragon: again, one of the best songs on the album...about a nishkigoi turning into a dragon...has a awesome power metalish feel to it...MIND BLOWING SOLO! even the outro solo is fckin incredible...sounds just perfect...ahh....5/5 Transform From Koi Into A Beast!

8.To The Rats: Now this is true thrash-in-your-face....all about hate, yeah, like most other bands...nice powerful-yet-funny chorus " Break every bone in your face, if you mess with my life, ill mess with your blood, etc.etc." is good, just seems wierd coming from matt... 4/5

9.World Cant Tear Us Apart: the Dying in your arms of the Crusade, though this time it talks about love as a good thing :|..the opnening solo, verse riffs and overall song structure is very similar to D.I.Y.A..has the same key changes... goodish solo, and the interlude is awesome too...4/5

10.Tread The Floods : this is a good song too, tho not that brilliant...but the solo with the rhythm behind it sounds perfect, but similar to the galloping on anthem...okay chorus and this n that 3.5/5

11. Contempt Breeds Contamination: this song is pretty good, seems boring at the opening, but thru the prechorus the actual feel comes out...the chorus is melodised, though i dont get one he means ... what i dont like in this song is the part where they actual sing the title...it seems ripped off, and completely different from the actual feel of the song, seems very sudden and unpleasant...otherwise a good song..3/5

12.The Rising : this song is the most non-metal song these guys have ever written...almost pop-rock-anthem type...but a good song none the less...some parts sound almost rockish...but the chorus is EXTREMELY catchy, the opening riff and solo are the humming type...pretty good solo...though after a couple of listens the chorus gets a bit boring...but a real good song...4/5

13.The Crusade : this ones a 8min instrumental, and im telling you, ive heard lots of dream theater,LTE,sat,vai,etc. and this is one of the BEST instrumentals ive heard...so quick...changes so quick...cutthroat pickin,insane drumming,the fuckin last 4 minutes of this song are fucking solos! the part where it mellows down with the bass solo is sooooo killler....and then the solo starts....amazing amazing amazing....brilliant title track, and easily the best track on the album,if the guys can actually pull it off the same way live, then theyre gods. 6/5
